There are some parts of renting a storage unit that seem obvious when you work in the storage business.
Moving out is a good example.
Take everything with you.
Leave the unit empty.
Clean it up.
Make sure you've completed the steps necessary to finish the move-out process and receive your security deposit back if you're eligible for the full refund.
Pretty straightforward.
Except it's only straightforward if somebody actually explains it to you.
When a tenant tells us they're thinking about moving out, we don't want to wait until everything is gone before explaining what happens next.
We'd rather communicate ahead of time.
That means explaining how the unit should be left and what the customer needs to do so there aren't surprises afterward.
It's a small thing, but tenants regularly tell us they appreciate that kind of communication.
And we understand why.
Nobody likes wondering whether they missed a step, especially when money is involved.
We've always thought communication works better when it's proactive.
If there's something important affecting a tenant or their account, we'd rather reach out than assume they'll eventually figure it out.
That doesn't mean filling someone's phone with unnecessary messages.
It means communicating when there's actually something worth communicating.
There's a difference.
For a move-out, that might mean explaining expectations early enough that the tenant can actually follow them.
In another situation, it might simply mean making sure the customer understands what happens next.
When someone starts comparing storage options in Green Bay, communication probably isn't the first thing they search for.
They're looking at price.
They're looking at unit sizes.
They're looking at location and access.
Those are all important.
But once you've rented the unit, having people who communicate clearly becomes a lot more valuable.
At Pack Away Storage, our goal is pretty simple:
If there's something you need to know, we'd rather tell you before you have to ask.
It makes our job easier.
It makes the customer's experience easier.
And based on what our tenants continue to tell us, it's something people appreciate.
