11 Homes, a Bunch of Volunteers, and One Pretty Good Week in Green Bay

We talk a lot about the big things happening in our communities.

This week, we'd rather talk about 11 houses.

During Good Neighbor Week, volunteers around the Green Bay area came together to help homeowners with painting, landscaping, minor repairs and other projects around their homes.

The work was provided at no cost to the homeowners.

Eleven projects might not sound like something that changes an entire city.

But imagine being one of those 11 homeowners.

Suddenly it feels pretty significant.

Sometimes Helping Is Pretty Simple

One of the things we liked about this story is how ordinary the work was.

Painting.

Landscaping.

Fixing things around a house.

Things many of us probably have sitting on our own weekend to-do lists.

But for some homeowners, age, health, finances or other circumstances can make those jobs difficult to handle alone.

So people showed up and helped.

That's it.

And sometimes that's what being part of a community looks like.

We See Little Wins Too

Running a storage facility gives us an interesting perspective on people's lives.

We see people in the middle of moves.

We see families trying to reclaim some room at home.

We see people storing furniture while something changes.

We see businesses that simply need a little extra space.

Usually, we're only a tiny part of whatever is happening.

And that's okay.

Nobody rents a storage unit because their lifelong dream was to have a storage unit.

They're usually trying to accomplish something else.

Our job at Pack Away Storage in Green Bay is simply to make the storage part easy while they do it.

Here's to the Small Wins

Good Neighbor Week actually included 11 Green Bay-area projects as part of a larger effort involving 23 projects across Greater Green Bay this year.

That's a lot of little improvements.

A repaired home here.

A freshly painted area there.

A homeowner who has one less thing to worry about.

Individually, they may seem small.

Together, they're exactly the kind of thing that makes a community a better place to live.

So we're going to start doing something a little more often on this blog.

Along with talking about storage, we'd like to occasionally stop and recognize some of the good things happening around Green Bay.

They don't have to be huge.

Sometimes the small wins are the ones most worth celebrating.
