By Monday morning, there were branches at the curb, chainsaws running, utility trucks on the road, and neighbors walking from house to house asking the same question:

“Do you need a hand?”

That is a familiar sight around Northeast Wisconsin.

The storms that moved through Appleton, Menasha, and nearby communities left many people with damaged homes, fallen trees, power outages, and a long list of things to figure out.

For some families, the cleanup will take days.

For others, the repairs may take much longer.

But almost immediately, people began helping.

Someone brought over a trailer.

Someone else had a generator.

A contractor offered advice. A neighbor helped move debris. Friends brought food, checked on loved ones, or simply stood nearby while someone tried to make sense of the damage.

There is no perfect thing to say after a storm like this.

Sometimes the most helpful thing is just showing up.

That is what we have always appreciated about this area. People care about their neighbors, and they do not need much recognition for it. They see something that needs to be done, roll up their sleeves, and get started.

At Pack Away Storage, we are grateful to be part of a community like that.

We want to thank the first responders, utility workers, contractors, volunteers, local businesses, and everyday neighbors who have spent their time helping others recover.

We also want those dealing with serious damage to know that they have not been forgotten.

There is still a lot of work ahead, but around here, people rarely have to do that work alone.

That is what makes Northeast Wisconsin feel like home.
